American Girl - Samantha's Craft Book
Samantha’s Craft Book: a look at crafts from the past with projects you can make today.
American Girl - Samantha 1904 is part of the American Girls Pastimes series and is edited by Jodi Evert

Samantha Parkington was an orphan being raised by her grandmother in the early 1900’s. It was during this time in American that new fangled notions and amazing new inventions are popping up, such as the telephone and the automobile.
Girls enjoyed making crafts.

Join Samantha in this book to learn how to make many crafts. You will find a list of craft tips to help you be successful with the most important tip being to work with an adult. This allows you to have fun together while making the items. Great illustrations help make it easy to understand the concepts taught. With the illustrations and instructions in this book you can learn how to thread a needle, work with paint and paintbrushes, fold a fan, embroider a leaf on a hankie, make candy crystals, cut out a snowflake, make a silhouette, fold poster board to make a May basket, make a bubble wand, press flowers, make leaf rubbed wrapping paper, and a seashell frame.

In the early 1900’s girls arranged their collections of flowers, seeds, shells and butterflies under glass domes. You might want to make a glass paperweight similar to what they made in those days past with your collection. During the hot summer months all young ladies carried fans. You can make a paper fan that will be pretty and also practical to use in case you have no air conditioning as was the case in the 1900’s. A young girl in the 1900’s might make a trinket box to have on display in the parlor. You can make one by covering a small wooden box with small scraps of pretty paper and then covering it all with a layer of two of glue to finish it and make it shiny. You can keep it in your bedroom for display with your hair ribbons or jewelry in it.

This 44 page book is appropriate for ages 8 and up. It is full of historical fun facts, step-by-step instructions and beautiful photographs.
